It is never too early and never too late in the life course for dementia prevention.

The title of this piece is a quote from The Lancet, Dementia prevention, intervention, and care: 2020 report: The Lancet Commissions, Volume 396, Issue 10248, P413-446, August 08, 2020.

According to their findings, 12 areas in our lives have some possible factor in the development of Dementia symptoms. These 12 factors account for 35% to 40% of the known and possible causes. It means 60% to 65% of the reasons why dementia symptoms develop are unknown.

By my reckoning, the commission and the entire medical world, are 100% sure that they do not know, with any certainty, what causes the onset of Dementia symptoms!

The report is worth reading; there are many areas of interest, they even mention COVID19, if you are interested?

It is a bit wordy, but that is the medical profession and the academic system for you. You can skim and find the areas of interest easy enough and delve more in-depth if you get interested. A pdf file is available and a link to the report.

I will end by going back to the title of this post:

It is never too early and never too late in the life course for dementia prevention.

Although the report is referring to the 12 articles, I believe this mantra should not just relate to those 12 possible causes and limiting other reasonable preventative measures and research, but all facets of our lives. Including diet, exercise, sleep, recreation, socialising, stimulating and developing mental and physical activities, rest, enjoyment, employment, relationships and being happy, about life and how we live it!

I believe the growing and developing World society has caused many problems along with hopefully more good. However, I think there is a reason to look at what has changed concerning Dementia symptoms. It is not just that we are all living longer; it is about living differently.
