For Our Eyes Only!

Only 3 minutes long. Click Play Button above and listen with a nice cuppa!

When I asked the question: What does ‘Oxidative stress and neuronal energy depletion are characteristic biochemical hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease. (AD)’ mean? I was told it’s for our eyes only!

You may assume I was talking to James Bond and MI5. Actually, I was asking about a research paper on Alpha Lipoic Acid and possible benefits for treating and preventing dementia symptoms.

At first, I was taken aback by this comment but, with a bit of thought, understanding where this archaic concept that science, and medicine, in this case, is not understood by us laypeople is clear. We are not clever enough or have the intellect to understand!

Medicine and medical science has always been a mystery and deliberately so. Those with knowledge have power. Well-to-do men, because it was men then, perpetuated this so-called knowledge and understanding by developing their own language. Words, terms and whole phrases were bandied about and became adopted and passed on. The more this happened, the further from reality it became. If men of medicine said something, it was assumed to be fact, but often it was built on a foundation of complicated, extended jargon. The only way to make head or tail of this was to accept, repeat and move on.

If you have spent time at school, college and university, you will have faced this, what I say is everything, method. Have you ever asked yourself where did they get this information from in the first place? It is most likely; they are a clone of a former all-knowing, wise man!

This convoluted method of talking about something to make it more complicated and more accessible by the few is still evident in the medical profession today.

Did you know that doctors use a code to express something about you to others in the medical profession but not intended for you to know? This is a simple case, but to witness the greater extreme of this deception, try reading a medical journal, a medical note, or in this case, a research paper.

The word doublespeak says it all. The term doublespeak came from George Orwell’s novel 1984. Although the word, Doublespeak isn’t in there, it came from two other words: Doublethink and Newspeak. It’s a good read, but harrowing in its closeness to our world today, maybe!

Doublespeak is a language that deliberately obscures, disguises, distorts or reverses the meaning of words.

Doublespeak is a part of our daily lives, and there is a reason for it, self-interest!

I think you get what I’m saying.

My Monday Challenge;

In simple words, understood by all, what does this mean?

‘Oxidative stress and neuronal energy depletion are characteristic biochemical hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease.(AD)’
